The first national conference for undergraduate dental research took place recently at University Place with over 250 students from across the UK attending.
The conference was organised by Year 4 BDS students Mohammad Jaberansari, Sameera Mukadam, Rajen Nagar, and Year 2 student, Ismail Khalil from the Faculty’s School of Dentistry.
Delegates heard research talks from Professors Kevin O’Brien (Orthodontics), Iain Pretty (Public Health), Helen Worthington (Cochrane), and Paul Coulthard (OMFS) who is Dean of the School in Manchester.
They also had an opportunity to attend a series of workshops including one about clinical academic career development and others such a Composite Master Class and a Suturing Workshop.
At the end of the one day conference, Professor Coulthard said: “This has been an enthusiastic and inspiring day! I am very proud of our students whose organisation of the event was incredible.”
Organiser, Mohammad Jaberansari, said: “After 10 months of preparation for the first ever British Undergraduate Dental Research Conference, I was proud to see all the hard work fulfil what was just an idea, into reality. A truly memorable day for all 250 delegates.”
Professor Coulthard added: “Based on the success of the day I can assure you that there be another British Undergraduate Dental Research Conference next year!”
